My Love for Wisconsin
My name is Craig Derrick. I’m an environmental conservationist for as long as I can remember. My inspiration about conserving nature started years ago as a kid watching my mum plant trees to enlarge the forest cover in my region. She did this with the help of other women in my locality. And whenever I look at what their work flourished today, I feel more than inspired. That maybe was the reason why I pursued a degree in Environmental Science while in college, and probably the reason that I’m too an environmental activist.
Growing up, most of the cable TV shows that I love watching pertain the environment and nature in general. I may never have really loved them, but they were part of my life as ‘imposed’ by mom. One such TV show is Discover Wisconsin which I have for long been an advent lover of. I also love watching documentaries because of the way that most of them depict the different habitats in this immense world as well as beauty of fauna and flora that grace our environments.
The all watching behavior led me to visit Wisconsin. One place that I had learnt about and need to visit was the Land O’ Lakes. This is one lovely place which is endowed with many waters hence so popular with enthusiasts of waters sports. This is one rare where wake boarders, surfers, kayakers, name them meet to have their fair fun of outdoor activities. I knew I had to too get a share of the experiences at this unique and beautiful environment.
Having Pleasure in the Lovely Waters of Land O’ Lakes
Eagle River was our first town as we began adventuring the waters area with my girlfriend. Watching and photo taking the endangered white-tailed eagles was fun as we did boating on the waters. It was all fun as we competed in taking the most fascinating photo shoot-outs of the birds and the sceneries. I loved every minute of the whole tour.
As we went further down the river we began fishing. I’m poor at that and even through the instructions of our guide I didn’t net anything, so was my girlfriend. But it was all fun for us as we tried something new though disappointed by the futility of our efforts.
By evening we were so exhausted. Deep within me I had this feeling that the day was wasted because we didn’t accomplish a lot. As in, we could have had more fun if we had joined other kayakers and boaters instead of just fishing. I kind of felt as if I had disappointed my girlfriend.
But all that changed when we went for a dinner date at Bent’s Camp. Everything about the place was amazing – the food the staff the ambiance et al. We had a romantic dinner which had my girlfriend all smiling and I knew that she was happy about it. By the time we went to rest for the night, I was certain that the day wasn’t wasted after all as I had earlier thought.
Recreational Activities in the Waters
The following day we decided to go sightseeing in the different water bodies which adorn the place. I loved every bit of the kayaking and watching the beautiful sceneries of the regions. We encountered other kayakers who were quite friendly. We took some photos together and later in the afternoon we met a friendlier couple who were looking for boaters so that they could adventure the waters together as a group. We very much obliged and spent the rest of the afternoon having fun in the waters before we headed to Bear Trap Inn together for the evening meal.
True to the facts that I knew about Wisconsin, I never felt let down during out weekend visitation at this great place. Maybe I will be there for my honeymoon.
